What has been discovered during the years of archaeological research and is a testimony to the way of life of our ancestors is exhibited in the well-appointed axhibition hall in the Museum of the Reserve.

An architectural complex in Pliska, the first capital of the First Bulgarian Empire, which includes the cathedral, an archbishop's palace and a monastery. The basilica was constructed on the orders of the knyaz of Bulgaria, Boris I (r. 852–889), after his baptism in 864 and the resultant Christianization of Bulgaria. Completed around 875, the basilica was 102.5 metres long and 30 metres wide.

The entrance leads directly to the courtyard of the Cyrillic alphabet, an outdoor space housing larger than life stone sculptures of all 30 letters in the Bulgarian alphabet. These stand over two meters high, mounted for display and carefully arranged in a large oval. Statues of Cyril and Methodius and King Boris I keep watch over the courtyard, reminding us of the long history and active measures necessary to bring Slavic literacy and Christianity together in Bulgaria.

The site is an early medieval carved rock relief depicting the life-size forms of a horseman and an eagle, trailed by a running dog and a speared lion caught beneath the crushing hooves of the horse. The composition symbolizes the victory over the enemy. Inscriptions describe facts from the early history of the Bulgarian state. The monument is dated back to circa 710 AD and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979. In 2009 was declared a "National Symbol of Bulgaria".
