Cyril and Methodius Tangible Heritage

Živé kulturní dědictví

Geographically, the mission itself and its cultural heritage covered a relatively large territory. Great Moravia covered mainly the localities of the Czech Republic (its eastern part) and western Slovakia, but also Hungary and Austria. Slavic Lower Pannonia included mainly present-day Hungary, but also Croatia and Serbia. Before and during the mission, the life story of Saints Cyril and Methodius also took place in the regions of present-day Greece and Turkey, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Ukraine and Russia ( the territory of Crimea and historical Kievan Rus). Once Cyril and Methodius’ direct followers were expelled from Great Moravia, the Cyril and Methodius cultural idea and its content spread among the Slavs living in the territory of present-day Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia and Southern Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, as well as Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, Moldova and Poland. As a consequence, today the Cyril and Methodius heritage is present in all the countries writing in Cyrillic/Azbuka.
