Chotěbuz-Podobora

In the local forests, on an elevated hill, there used to be a hillfort protected by the Olše River on one side and a moat and steep slopes on the other. The fortified settlement was first built here in the late Bronze Age and earlier Iron Age, called also known as the Hallstatt period. A few hundred years later, it was replaced by a fortified early medieval Slavic settlement on the same site, the approximate form of which is reconstructed in today’s Archaeopark.

In December 2015, the construction of the long-awaited multifunctional entrance building of the Archaeopark in Chotěbuz-Podobora was successfully completed, which is one of the branches of the Museum of Těšínsko. This closed a major chapter in the history of the construction of the Archaeopark, which had been continuously built as a replica of a Slavic hillfort in the forests near Český Těšín since 2001. It continued the importance of the site both in ancient times and today, when it is one of the leading Czech archaeological sites declared a cultural monument. This is primarily due to the extremely rich history of the settlement, which has been linked to Chotěbuz-Podobora since prehistoric times and whose traces today represent an important well of information about the history of the Těšín region.

Information from history

FROM THE HISTORY OF THE CHOTĚBUZ LOCALITY

The fortified settlement was first built and inhabited on the river terrace in today's Chotěbuz in prehistoric times - at the turn of the Late Bronze Age and the older Iron Age. After its demise and abandonment, which took place roughly in the Younger Latin Age, it waited another 1,200 years or so before people returned to the site.
